FCMTA sponsors several student events per year, as follows:

Each event is described below:
Halloween Recitals are entry-level recitals for young students. Music should be theme appropriate. Memorization is not required. The students may wear their Halloween costumes. Certificates of participation are awarded.

The High School Music and Pizza Café is an informal opportunity for older students to engage with other music students enjoying fellowship and sharing a song or piece of their choice in a non-competitive environment. A guest speaker may also be present to provide educational opportunities.

Senior Living Center Performances comprise one or more recitals that take place at one of Frederick’s assisted-living facilities. Memorization is not required. The goal of this event is to bring the joy of music and children into the lives of senior citizens.

Ensemble Festival is a series of non-adjudicated recitals of ensemble performances. At least one performer in each ensemble must be a student of a current FCMTA teacher. Parents, teachers, and friends are welcome to join the ensemble. Students perform up to two pieces, within the given time allotted. Music does not have to be memorized. Students of FCMTA teachers are invited to join a “Group Ensemble Class” between recitals, which will include fun activities and improvised performances in an ensemble setting.

MSMTA Keyboard Musicianship Testing is a state-wide program. One event is held in Frederick County. Students are prepared in various areas of keyboard playing, as outlined in the MSMTA Student Activities Portal.

MSMTA Theory Testing is a state-wide program. One event is held in Frederick County. Students are prepared in music theory, ear-training, reading, etc. as outlined in the MSMTA Student Activities Portal.

Sonatina/Sonata Festival is a series of adjudicated recitals. Students perform one sonatina or sonata movement and one contrasting piece. Both pieces should be memorized. The teacher assigns the difficulty level. Certificates of Participation are awarded and the adjudicator's comments are given to the teachers.

The Student Master Class event gives each enrolled student the opportunity to perform in a recital format for their peers and a Guest Master. Following the performance, the Master will conduct a short lesson with the student and offer helpful insights for improving the student's playing. Teachers and other students will be able to observe each performance and benefit from listening to the Master's comments.

This event takes place annually over a weekend in downtown Frederick. Our goals for this event are to provide a performance opportunity for students and to promote public awareness and understanding of FCMTA.
