
I believe that every child, with strong and sustained parental support, access to a decent instrument, and an immersive musical environment, has the capability of learning to play expressively, freely and communicatively.
Wendy Johnston teaches piano and organ students from her studio in Woodbine, Maryland and at Catonsville Presbyterian Church, where she is Organist and Assistant Music Director. She has a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore Maryland and a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance (Piano Minor Emphasis) from Shenandoah Conservatory. In addition, Ms. Johnston has a Bachelor of General Studies from Brigham Young University, where she completed work in Piano Performance. Major teachers include John Walker, Wayne Wold, Dale Krider, Irene Peery-Fox and Brian Ganz. She has been coached by Martin Jean, Nathan Laube and Jean-Baptiste Robin. During a post-graduate trip to Paris, Wendy had additional coaching at the Royal Chapel at Versailles, France.
As a recitalist, Wendy was a performer at the 2024 OHS Convention in Baltimore and was recently named as a Guest Recitalist at the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah where she will be performing on the historic daily noon recitals held in the Tabernacle and in the Conference Center.
Wendy presents and teaches at Brigham Young University Organ Workshops in Provo, Utah, and BYU Traveling Organ Workshops held throughout the United States. She has an active teaching studio of piano and organ students of all ages and levels.
An active member of the American Guild of Organists, Ms. Johnston serves on the National Committee for Career Development and Support and has been instrumental in founding and establishing the Student Scholar Program for the Baltimore chapter. She has been a long-time member of the Maryland State Music Teachers Association and has served on the State Executive Board in several capacities.
